Y Eau de Toilette 2022 is a crisp, clean, and refreshingly aromatic fragrance that captures the essence of modern masculinity with a touch of sweetness. It opens with a bright, effervescent burst of aldehydes, bergamot, and ginger, creating a clean, slightly soapy and summery vibe that feels like stepping out of a refreshing shower. The lavender and clary sage notes add a green, aromatic depth, while a subtle vanilla dry down brings a soft, sweet muskiness that gives it balance without becoming cloying. The reformulated version improves upon the original by offering a smoother, more rounded profile—less synthetic, less apple-driven, more restrained than the 2017 formulation—while increasing longevity and projection. It performs well, lasting up to 8 hours on skin, with moderate sillage that's suitable for daywear, especially in warm weather. The scent is flexible and unobtrusive, making it ideal for casual outings, offices, or summer activities. While many appreciate its fresh, inoffensive character and versatile appeal, it is not without its limitations. Some find the fragrance overly generic or in need of a stronger woody backbone, especially in the dry down, where the cedar and olibanum may not emerge prominently enough. Others report a headache-like sensitivity, particularly to the lavender or aldehydes, making it less suitable for those with sensitive olfactory systems. The dry down leans toward a warm, sweet, vanilla-citrus-gelato vibe, which some perceive as too gummy or overly processed, reminiscent of shower gels or mass-market blue fragrances. It’s not a bold scent, and while it earns consistent compliments, it lacks the depth or uniqueness of the EDP or Le Parfum variants in the Y line.
