by Rosendo Mateu Olfactive Expressions
Rosendo Mateu Nº 7 is a deeply textured, warm patchouli-oud-vanilla fusion that balances earthy depth with creamy sweetness. It opens with a distinct animalic and spiced warmth, driven by cumin and a dense patchouli base, which some find overwhelming or even sweaty at first—though this intensity fades quickly into a smoother, more refined core. The heart reveals a svelte interplay of vanilla, earthy patchouli, and subtle florals, which blend seamlessly with mild woody and smoky oud nuances, lending a velvety, ambery quality without leaning into overt or harsh oud notes. The drydown is smooth, warm, and long-lasting, with a soft, sweet vanilla presence that doesn’t dominate, and a well-integrated patchouli that retains its musty, earthy character without becoming cloying. Though some find it too sweet or reminiscent of commercial body sprays, most agree it achieves a rare elegance—evoking the depth of Coromandel, yet with a more complex, nuanced character.
